Good evening campers....
Haven't blogged for a couple of days as we have been mad busy driving all over Lewis & Harris looking at houses!! I don't think there is any ground we haven't covered from Ness right down to Harris and have seen some lovely and shocking houses!!! One in particular really gave me the heeby jeebies!! I actually asked the estate agent if someone had been murdered there as there were manky stains on the walls and a really nasty smell!..(I am not known to hold off on awkward questions!) The estate agents pushing ability makes me giggle...'its only cosmetic work'....like hell it is the walls are thick black with mould, the windows are knackered, there's food splattered on the walls, fungus, holes in the floors... bulging ceilings and the best bit the radiators with burst pipes filled with expanding foam..but hey if you've got a spare 70k knocking around to fix the 'cosmetic work' then the house may well be a bargain..NOT!!!!
We have stuck an offer in on a house and are keeping our fingers crossed...providing we all don't get blown away in the 90mph winds forcasted for stornoway tommorow! the wheelie bins are tied to the walls and we are not leaving the house tommorow...I am going to get back to work and try and get back to normality whilst waiting for the phone to ring!!
Over the past two days we have spoken to lots of people up here who have only emphasised the fact that we have made the right decision..i just wish it felt more secure at the minute..fingers crossed tommorow it will!!
Tonights quest is to relax and give up looking for houses! Its driving me potty!! Fingers crossed for tommorow please people a)for the house and b) that we dont get blown away in the storm!! :0)

90mph? Bah! That's a mere breeze.
ReplyDeleteOne of the nice things about the houses here is that if you're inside you don't really notice the wind (unless you look through the window and see the bins flying by, or a sheep).
As a tip, get some gneiss stones from the beach, they're fantastic for holding things down. (Although when you go across the causeway into Point, those big rocks by the side of the road, they were blown there.)
Really glad you've put an offer in on a house. Fingers crossed that you get the call soon. It took a couple of days for our offer accepted and it was a nail biting time. Where is it?
Which house was the one with the murder committed in it? Want to have a nosey now. It sounds fantastic even if it is "in need of modernisation".
